When I first put bow to string on this violin my jaw dropped!
“Violins of this price are not supposed to sound like this!

Simply wonderful sounding old violin with a REX label and branded “REX” on the back button.
This is a very well made violin. This is definitely not your usual mass production German violin churned out quickly at low cost. It has been masterly crafted using carefully selected tone wood to produce a most wonderful sounding violin that outperforms many far more expensive violins.
We have been able to find little information about the REX label, but the one clue that we have is that it may have been a label used by an exporter or a brand import label for a shop in the United States. It was common practice in the past for exporters and shops to order violins from makers and supply their own labels for the maker to put in the violin. The one other REX labelled violin that we have come across was a Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy workshop product made for the Gretsch guitar company in New York.
This violin has been fully restored and a new Bass Bar fitted – which alone would cost close on £2000 – and it is fitted with quality Evah Pirazzi strings, our choice for all performance violins.
And what can I say about the sound of this violin. It has a clear tone, precise response, is even across all the strings, and has excellent projection. It has both brilliance and warmth. It is full of colour and has a richness of tone usually only found in much higher price violins. It sings like you can only dream of and has a beautiful ease that makes it a real pleasure to play
All this for Only – £2850.00
